Cheers - more Blunkett.

Thanks to Dave 2 for commenting on my last post and pointing out Warren Ellis's views on David Blunkett leaving.

It's certainly food for thought. I'm still torn on the situation though. Yes he abused his position of power but he did something that most of us do anyway - if there's a perk of a job we try and exploit it. At the micro level we nick pens and use the photo-copier/internet access for our own use. Further up the scale Policemen let collegues off speeding tickets and what have you. So why should Blunkett be punished because he's in the public eye? Some people would argue that because he's an MP he should have higher moral values. Yeah, pull the other one. The image that many of us have of MPs is of people who abuse their position by shagging their secretarys or enjoying a lavish lifestyle and putting it all down as 'expenses'. So why punish Blunkett for living up to the image we all have any way?

Anyways, I think Blunkett is more being punished over the bitchy comments he made about other MPs in his biography. THAT was a dumb thing to do.

Ah well. It's 02:24 am here and nothing I write makes any difference.
