Syrians have set fire to the Norwegian and Danish embassies in Damascus to protest at the publication of newspapercartoons of the Prophet Muhammad...
Thsi is what infuriates me. Yes, it was offensive and dumb for the Dutch papers to print a cartoon of the Islam Prophet, especially when things are as volitile as they are for the moment. The original paper, Jyllands-Posten, has apologised for printing the cartoons . However this apology seems to have fallen on deaf ears. Considering the paper has apologised the the actions of the muslims involved in the above story are amazingly out of line. From what the story says the buildings were empty however that could change as news filters through. What the Muslims involved have done is caused amazing amounts of criminal damage, possibly injuring many people, delaying the work that was being done at the embassies and quite possibly affecting the jobs and liveloods of the people who worked in them. I'm going to quote from the above site:
On Saturday, hundreds hurled stones and stormed the Danish site, before moving to the Norwegian embassy.
"With our blood and souls we defend you, O Prophet of God," they chanted outside the Danish building, which also houses the Swedish and Chilean missions.
So whilst chanting about how much they love and respect their God the protestors charged and ruined two important buildings.
Somehow, I think the protestors actions have done much more to damage people's views of the Islamic faith then the polictically-incorrect cartoons ever did.
